Don't You Feel Safer Already?

Metro fired their shitty old security company and hired a new one.

King County Metro Transit has hired a new security firm to replace Olympic Security Services inside the Downtown Transit Tunnel after Olympic's guards did nothing to intervene as a girl was beaten inside the tunnel last month.

King County Executive Dow Constantine announced Thursday that Securitas Security Services USA would replace Olympic. Securitas is already under contract with Sound Transit for security services at light rail stations and trains.

"These guards are Metro's eyes and ears, and with this change we can have higher expectations of them in their ability to deter bad behavior," Constantine said in a statement. "Safety and security remain our highest priorities."

The bus tunnel is safe now. Phew!

Oh yay Securitas!
You mean, the company who just pissed off the Navy by giving them malnourished and untrained bomb-sniffing dogs? Metro will never hire security trained to handle conflict. And Securitas will never provide them either.

No Security
I was in the downtown tunnel Tuesday night and there were no security guards, neither on the mezzanine or tunnel levels, the entire time I waited for the light rail. I would have been nervous about it, but now knowing security officers wouldn't do anything anyway, I'm not.
